He's reading! Something clicked and K1's suddenly reading. And getting 100% on the spelling tests. And reading the part of Francis Scott Key in his class's play about how the Star Spangled Banner was written.

That's great, yay K1! I think this is a lot more common than people realize that a kid is forced to read earlier than might come naturally and has trouble until it really clicks. I do wonder if it's a side effect of all the early intervention stuff in some way (which is great and important for kids who need it); everyone wants to identify a "problem" when in reality, a kid might just not be ready.

He must be proud of himself! (and your plan was masterful!)
Married to a Urology Attending! (that is an understated exclamation point)
Mama to C (Jan 2012), D (Nov 2013), and R (April 2016). Consulting and homeschooling are my day jobs.

And, today, he sat at the kitchen table with me and read for 45 minutes. He read his first ever chapter book, cover to cover, with minimal whining. I'm so proud of him!

Which book? (One of my favorite parenting memories is that 1st chapter book that just sucked my dd in and she realized the world that exists in a book)

The New Puppy from the Black Lagoon. Not fine literature but he was able to do it himself.

Haha, you won’t find a mom brag of “oh, well, my child started with Homer’s Odyssey” from me. I think dd’s was either Kingdom of Wrenly or Zoey and Sassafras (I prefer the latter) but it really doesn’t matter what sparks the love of reading. It’s awesome to see. Congrats!
