  • Carving / Painting Pumpkins

I don't really want to carve pumpkins, too messy! I have seen some pics on the internet with pumpkins with some sort of stencil painted on. Anyone ever tried this?

Oooh that's neat! My work is having a contest for pumpkin carving or painting. I might have to try that!

Paint pens work on pumpkins, as do sharpies (the liquid ones work better) and acrylic paint. I have a three year old - we do everything BUT carve pumpkins. We've also ventured into the foam pumpkins. Last year I carved out our first initial each in it's own pumpkin, and then DD and I glittered them - it was awesome this year to have pretty decorated pumpkins all ready to go. This year, we're doing rhinestone gems on the foam pumpkins - we'll see how that turns out!

I leave the carving to DH - must be his surgical skills but his turn out much better then mine! Here are 2 of his from last year:

And probably my all time favorite that he's done:

ooo I like the glitter and silver ones. And I like the idea of painting and carving at the same time! I have no idea what I will carve this year. I once won a pumpkin carving contest at my dorm in college.

Cheri, the apple pumpkin is hilarious. DH also loves carving pumpkins too. It's nice to know that 7 years of grueling surgical training does have it's practical applications too.

I love the matching witch legs pumpkins. Thanks for posting these. The girls and I are going to get started on halloween decorations today. I think we're going to make the pumpkin buttermilk cake too. So yummy. I'll go repost it in recipes.

Thanks guys - I'm sad I'm just not feeling Halloween this year. Its my favorite holiday but we may not even get pumpkins b/c DH won't be home to decorate them until the 29th. Luckily A still doesn't quite get it because little brother is putting a crimp in her holiday this year.

I am going to attempt the witch legs, also I thought about doing zebra print one. DH wants me to do one with a bone for each of the dogs. I will be doing this till Halloween!

So here is the zebra one!
The one in white was my inspiration, the one in orange is mine.
