  • Looking for fancy/impressive dish suggestions

We are invited to a fancy dinner party (these people are seriously into food and wine). I need to bring something (non-dessert) and I have no ideas. It can really be anything but it has to travel well (so no soup). I can even do finishing touches at their place. Please help, I have only a week to figure this out and may be even do a test run. I don't care if it's complicated, I want people to be impressed.

Alton brown has a really great shrimp cocktail recipe if you are up for something like that.

What about something like this? My sister makes a delicious version with cream cheese--it comes out looking very elegant

I had posted in one of the cooking club threads the broccoli risotto torte that I make. It can be served hot or cold so is a great dis to take along. For some reason I cannot find it right now, but I will try to get it tomorrow.

I was also thinking of baked Brie with figs... The only thing is it's best right out of the oven so can pseudo cook there?

There are some. Let me know if you need more. I especially think the last one would be very impressive.

I made the recipe in the first link Heidi posted for a cocktail party last year. The flavors were really interesting. I think it was a hit.

What did you end up making? I think I may try one or more of these today.

You are always welcome! I don't cook like this every night though.

                        Today, however, we are having:

                        Parmesan-Stuffed Bacon Wrapped Dates
Tuna and Avocado Tartare with California Caviar on Sesame Wonton Crisps
Hot Shrimp and Crab Dip with Crostini
                        Stuffed Mushrooms
Slush, Champagne, Moscato d' Asti, assorted booze
                        Individual Beef Wellingtons
                        Italian Creme Custard

I like to go all out on holidays! Plus, my mom, dad, sister, and BIL are joining us. My Mom has to go back home tomorrow. Booo!

Wow, Heidi! Beef wellington is my absolute favor. Your'e doing that from scratch? It seems tricky.
