I found this book on the Mothers Day table at the library. Just finished it, and it's probably the most striking Holocaust memoir I've read.
By Schoschana Rabinovici
It's the story of a young girl growing up in Vilnius, Poland, and her travels with her mother through the ghetto, work camps, and extermination camps. Though part of the intensity of the book is how inhumane people could be to other people, it's quite amazing how human beings manage to survive under really horrible circumstances, and how acts of kindness appear in the weirdest places.
She has a great memory for details, and writes really well - you'll find yourself drawn into her story, and tremendously affected by it.
