  • On a Clear Day

This is a British movie, I think. The main character is a retired/laid off mechanic of some type in the shipyard. The movie explores how he uses his "free time", works through his bitterness about being downsized, and works through a family tragedy that happened 20+ years earlier. A major theme is the father/son relationship.

This movie has one actress you'll probably recognize, but I didn't know any of the others. The actress is married to the protagonist in the movie-- she also played Grace from Saving Grace (a hilarious British film about a woman growing pot-- it's so funny), Mrs. Bennet from Pride and Prejudice (Keira Knightly version), and she was the housekeeper in Atonement. She's done lots of other movies, but pretty much all British/Scottish I think.

Ultimately, I think this movie is worth watching. It's not particularly fast-moving, but it's not slow either. To me, the ending was really nice... maybe even profound.
