  • kid's music gems

After I figured that my head would likely explode if I listened to one more Laurie Berkner or Dan Zanes song, I bought a few new albums....."Napper's Delight" by Dean Jones and "Family Tree" and "Fascinating Creatures" by Frances England. I can't recommend these artists enough. Both kids love their music and DH and I dig it, too.....I've even had these albums playing after the kids have gone to bed.

Oooh, I love Lisa Loeb, too. We have the album she did with Elizabeth Mitchell (who I think DS has a crush on)..."Catch the Moon". I need to check out Raffi!

oh - Raffi is one of those that makes me want to drive off of a bridge. I enjoyed They Might Be Giants (No means NO! A thousand times NO!), and also really loved the Jack Johnson soundtrack for Curious George.

I didn't do (and won't with this one) a lot of kid music. I just can't. My boys love Sheryl Crow, Dixie Chicks, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zepplin .... it's an eclectic mix. They go to sleep listening to Yo Yo Ma .... (that should redeem me a bit!)

My daughter loved, loved, loved Laurie Berkner when she was a toddler. Mostly, though, my kids listen to what I listen to, and they enjoy singing along to it.

          You should hear my daughter:

          "I love rock n' roll!
Put another dime in the JUICE BOX baby."

C'mon, like she'd know what a Juke Box is! LOL. Cracks me up. She jams along with all the guitar hero tracks that her brother rocks out to. His favorite band is Guns N Roses.

oh dear gawd! guns n roses. i used to looove them.

(i do like lisa loeb, and BNL. i think BNL put out a holiday albums for the jews. so we wouldnt feel left out on the holidays.)

FWIW, my kids don't listen to kid music either. unless you count what they hear on noggin. currently, they're repeating natasha bennigfield (sp?) pocket full of sunshine, and no one by alicia keys. they like my music. atleast i think they do. too bad if they don't
cold play, jason mraz, blink 182, dave matthews,U2, green day, dixie chicks, billy joel.

dh: ozzy , def leppard, INXS, peter gabriel (i love him too) warrant, cracker (not uncle) van halen, pretty much any hair band from the 80's.

i don't mind that they listen to what we do..as long as there isn't excessive swearing, sex, or racial stuff.

I think she sounds a lot like Jewel and listen to her music all the time without any kids around.

The Barenaked Ladies album is a lot of fun. DS loves it, but whenever we listen to it, he asks, "But why are they naked??" The new one by TMBG is also a favorite. Laurie Berkner is good....her voice is just like nails on a chalkboard to me, though.

DS listens to a lot of our stuff, too....he sometimes asks to fall asleep to the Garden State soundtrack. He listens intently to song lyrics and asks a lot of questions about what the singer is singing about and why (and why and why and why and why and why), so kids music is usually the safest bet for when I don't have the energy to answer all of his questions.

Seriously, Dean Jones and Frances England are sweet (but not too saccharin) and fun to listen to.

We listen to a lot of home-made discs of our music (making sure they are songs with clean lyrics). I also LOVE Justin Roberts. Kids' music, but you get the impression that he was in a former band that just couldn't make it. Great tunes for the whole family.

I have that Frances England album and really like it! Unfortunately, all DD wants to hear lately is this really annoying cd that my MIL gave her of toddlers singing sunday school songs.

When we go anywhere in DH's car she always says "Daddy, put in some cajun music." Melts his Louisiana heart every time.
