  • Welcome and FAQ

    WELCOME!

Welcome to the forums for the international Medical Spouse Network. We are an online community of men and women who are married or in a relationship with someone in medicine. Our purpose is to provide support and help to others who are in it too! We hope that you find a great resource here for camaraderie and support. We are a fantastic and varied community of men and women from different backgrounds and perspectives who just have this medical life in common. We have a lot to offer, and we hope you will love it here. Pull up a chair, jump right in, and welcome to the party!
    FAQ

    1. It says “medical spouse” in the url, and you are the “international Medical Spouse Network”. Do I have to be married to a physician to be a member here? What if we are just dating? What if my spouse is a dentist or physician assistant, etc.?

You are welcome here! We do want our membership to be people who are in relationships with medical professionals, but that’s it! Most of our members are, in fact, married to physicians, but we do have members who are dating physicians, engaged, or who are divorced from their doctor spouses. We also welcome other medical professionals’ significant others; however, we do admit that we are predominantly in relationships with physicians.

    2. Why do you have private forums, and what’s in them?

Medicine is a very small and interconnected world. We don’t want anything that a member posts online to hurt their significant other professionally in any way. It is nice to have a private space to ask questions and get support, as well as to rant away against medicine or even your significant other without having to worry about the wrong person reading it.

    3. How do I gain access to the private forums such as Pediatrics, Colonoscopy, or Marriage Matters, etc.?

In short, let us get to know you! The best way to gain access is to post 50 substantive posts in threads that you start or join in on. Please be aware that 50 posts doesn’t automatically flip a switch to let you in. Please alert an administrator when you have reached 50 posts so that we can grant you access.

Alternatively, if you feel like you need access to the private forums right away for immediate support or help, please privately message one or more administrators. We will want to know that you are a real person in a real medical relationship, so we will ask questions, but may be able to grant private forum access if we are comfortable. Remember that we are people with busy lives, so your best bet maybe to message a few of us.

    4. Wait a minute!! The requirements have changed!! It used to be _____. What gives?

That's probably true! The forum administrators have decided, that for now, we would like to make it a little easier to gain private forum access. We want to feel like the friendly, welcoming, spectacular group that we are. We hope you'll stick around!

    5. Who are the administrators?

The current administrators are PrincessFiona, houseelf, poky, Vanquisher, Sheherezade, and Meenah. PrincessFiona is the iMSN founder, Kris! She is amazing, but gets swamped with a very busy life. Please feel free to reach out to any of us.

    6. Great! Now what? How do I get started?

First, register. Then, post. It's that easy! Start with an introduction of yourself in the Introductions forum. http://www.medicalspouse.com/forums/...-Introductions You are welcome to read, respond to posts, and start posts of your own.
