But it is ugly, it gets nasty, my kids have all been called names, and my middle schoolers were informed today at school that a vote for Romney is a vote to send every Mexican back to Mexico. I don't like elections bc I think they bring out the worst in people.

There was a girl at a local high school here that was reportedly attacked when a mock election in class got out of control and had to go to the hospital. She had a slight concussion and needed stitches on the side of her head where she was struck by a stapler. Yep I'd say elections bring out the worst in people, even kids...

I agree. But you've got to admit, there are a LOT of whacky, over-the-top vitriolic GOP talking heads. The left has a couple, but the GOP seems to have a shit ton.

I disagree. The left has a ton, too. The media just covers the GOP wackos with such glee that it seems like the GOP has more.

I'm just so used to living in deep blue states where it's common to call anyone right leaning all sorts of names and that's ok.

I know the left hates Limbaugh, and he says shock value things I agree, but he's an entertainer and a pretty big critic of the republican party too.

It bugs me when teachers and educators show their political bias (either way-- my high school was 85% conservative and 10% libertarian lol)-- political bias among teachers is far more common to be from the left though. And all my kids have been chastised and humiliated in front of their friends and peers for saying that they were "republican". (except for the preschooler-- she's yet been blessed by this "education"). FWIW, I feel my kids that they are nothing yet-- they don't need to claim a party ever if they don't want to, and that they can't vote until they are 18, so they need to try to look at both sides and see what resonates with them as they grow and mature. But the name calling from teachers and peers doesn't make them more likely to vote liberal...

I see that this can happen in the deep red states as well, and it is disappointing and shouldn't be supported. I've only experienced political bias from the left in education since we've always been in very blue states for the past 10 years.

It just sucks all over and makes me sad for the future because every cycle seems to get uglier and uglier.

It's all perspective. I find a lot of the fruit loops on the left to say incredibly deplorable things. They just aren't newsworthy because the media doesn't find them to be crazy.

I stopped watching the news, and would occasionally research on my own.
I have friends all over the political spectrum, and I for the most part respect their voiced choices (exception - until my newsfeed was bombarded with constant, hateful chatter). Frankly, I had a hard time voting this year (political despair!). Our household is divided, but that's not surprising. What is surprising to me is how the bipartisan system in our country works less and less for me as an individual the older I get. I cannot vote straight ticket at all.

Peggy -- in our neighborhood, I feel the kids get a pretty balanced presentation at school. I thought that would be great but honestly, it's incredibly stressful! LOL My son's friends and families (and many of our friends) are solidly Republican and openly say anti liberal stuff -- jokingly, respectfully (I guess!) but still. I've had people joke about hitting us with the car to get rid of one more liberal. Ha ha! *cringe* The teachers (many of them) lean left from my assessment but are VERY careful about not teaching it. We had the school tell kids they could stay home as an excused absence rather than hear the Obama speech to students on education day at the beginning of his term because parents were upset -- but at least the school carried it.

The upshot of raising my kids in a "balanced" environment is they feel that politics are very stressful and my son seems to think dictatorship is preferable. That's right. My 16 year old is arguing that a dictatorship would work better as a government. Hey, no gridlock, huh? LOL

He is learning to think for himself and that's good but I wish he could view a functional government just once in his formative years. So far, hasn't happened. He sees government as a constant battle and a performance joke. At all times, 50% of the populace tells him our government is ruining the country. I wonder how this will shape him as an adult.

I agree with this...being Libertarian (read: I pretty much hate the right and the left) there are crackpots on both sides.

Oh my super conservative grandfather just found out I voted for Obama. Oh my, he was not pleased. He blamed it on my "liberal, northern" college. (Eye roll)

I hate election night coverage. I just check the results online with my local news station and they have already called in WI for Obama with only 2 out of 3540 precincts reporting. And the margin is pretty slim with the 2 that have 54 to 46%. How the heck could they possibly call it already. It just sucks.
