I have no idea if this really belongs in "Debates," because I am not really posing a debate by posting it (I don't think…). Whatever your position is on the issue of whether the denial of same-sex marriage rights by a state constitutes the deprivation of a human right or is a proper exercise of state's rights or whatever, I found this TED talk to be intelligent and moving. And her ultimate message--that we are too consumed with putting people in boxes because we prefer the simplicity of boxes to the challenge of becoming familiarity with the different--to be on the mark about our human condition.
It is long…about 18 minutes…but worth it, I think. She's preaching to the choir in terms of her uber-liberal audience (you can tell) and the same-sex marriage issue, but I don't think that undermines her talk. She is not alienating in her political views. I found some of her amateur legal analysis/assumptions to be unpersuasive or incorrect, but they don't take away the validity of her point.
