Royal Baby: the great #KateWait

I think it's interesting to witness history/be aware of the birth of an historically significant person at the time that his/her birth happens. We don't have many opportunities for that. Imagine if we knew that Winston Churchill was going to be historically significant; journalists would have been much more diligent about documenting his early childhood. No matter who this baby becomes or whether the monarchy continues to be relevant, this baby's birth is an historic event. It's not as if the birth of North West has historical significance.

I'm not into the hype, but I am curious about the baby's gender and name.

I agree about the historical importance and experiencing this moment in our history together. I just wish we weren't dragged along this month in the media and someone would send me a text when the baby is born and pictures and information are online. Everyday I keep expecting to see it in the news and each week it's extended another week. Now they're saying she'll have the baby with the full moon on Monday or Tuesday or not until August. Ugh, give us a break. Even I'm tired of the media frenzy.

I also realize that the royal baby being born will have no significant importance on my life. Nothing will actually change for me in my life.

After the royal birth I probably won't be paying much attention to them anyways. My interest has been waning for months. I used to follow the style blogs on her but since Feb. I'd say my honeymoon with the royal couple has passed. She's been recycling all her clothes and I know the designers she wears for the most part. I can't afford them. Plus I'm bored with the constant recycling which I think may be the whole point she's doing it. Asserting that she's not a fashion icon really and doesn't need the rabid attention she's attracting.

I'm also turned off by the backlash from people on the fashion forums or in the news. If you mention you're bored with watching her recycling clothes they're so rude about it to you. Even people in the media who write about fashion are condescending to the audience who reads about fashion that offers constructive criticism on her. It's as if you can't say a negative thing about their darling Kate. I'm sorry but nobody is that perfect. I don't care who they are. So those things for me are a real turn off and make me less and less interested in following them anymore.

I could care less about their choices as parents. I'm not going to be watching and reading about what they buy the baby, how they dress it, do they breast feed or use the bottle, or what approach to parenting they take. Though it is cute to see the items they're selling or giving away in celebration of the royal baby right now.

Nope because when Adele the singer became popular about six months after my Adele was born I was irritated and then Molly Ringwald named one of her twins Adele about a year after that. Irritated on both accounts - does it matter, no but its my daughter's name so I can be irritated if I want to. As can you!

I'm just afraid we've picked this name, which is a relatively common name anyway, but people are supposedly all going to name their baby after the royal baby, so it will be even more common, and I don't want people to think we did the same thing when we really put a lot of thought into it.

That poor girl, they've already release like two updates since she got there. Can you imagine having your labor progress broadcast to the world?

I did read in one place that even if he/she is born today we may not know the name until they leave the hospital...

I was reading that too about the name being delayed for release. I've never heard of that before but Prince Charles took a week and Prince William's took longer. Though Prince Harry's name was released the next day.

I wonder how many babies are really born on the full moon? There is something mystical about it like the stuff of mythology. I was reading that if the baby is born today it will be a Cancer and if it's born tomorrow it will be a Leo. Either way the baby will be born on the cusp of the sun signs which means it will have attributes of both which is good. A Cancer is a home body and a Leo is a leader so the baby will have characteristic in line with it's family values and royal position according to astrology.

And I just clicked on nbcnews.com live feed of the hospital - its the front door with two guards, so very exciting why would you sit on your computer and watch that?

A BBC reporter said it best, "...plenty more to come from here, none of it news - but that won't stop us."

The Guardian website has a way to block all royal baby "news" from their site.

While the birth of this baby is obviously news, the media obsession makes me sad.

They showed a picture of the same location from 1982 when the second in line to the throne was born. It was compared to what is outside the hospital today and it really shows the state of the media. In 1982 a 24 hour news cycle hadn't been introduced yet so there were 100's more journalist to cover the event. Now technology is so advanced and news agencies staff are so whittle down to the bare minimum that it seems there is hardly a press pool outside the hospital in 2013 compared to what they has in 1982. You can also see there is a lot more sophisticated equipment today compared to back then.

I feel for any first time mom in labor. Hope people don't whine that it is "taking so long." (27 hour labor here)

Wonder if she is taking advantage of the nitrous? I REALLY wish that was a pain option here.

One thing I did notice though--I wasn't all that impressed with the amenities and decorations the super expensive Lindo Wing offered--it was pretty crappy compared with most of the private hospitals in our area at least. Just a DFW thing or is that the norm everywhere?
