  • Amateur stylists, come on down.

We are going to the holiday "gala" this year. My guess is it's not nearly as grand as "gala" suggests. So far my experience at the new hospital has been that I overdress. So, I'd like to stick to something I already own and like.

I got a black wrap style dress in a swishy rayon from Stitch Fix. It fits well, I like it and it makes me feel both comfortable and confident. I've worn it a number of times for work with boots and various belts.

Could I dress it up for the holiday party? If so, with what? I was thinking a statement necklace (don't own any) or a colorful wrap? I always seem to bring a wrap as an accessory though and feel like I'm a 60 year old woman with a big head scarf. Usually, I end up leaving it on a chair somewhere. I must be doing it wrong. Lol

So, maybe dressier shoes? Patterned stockings? Jewelry? Belt? All these are ideas to dress it up, just not sure how to make it more festive for an evening party.

I could go buy something else, or wear a different dress, but I figure wearing something I actually enjoy being out in is a big plus for looking good.

This is not me, it's a blogger, but I believe this is the same dress.

Oh, and since you guys are so good at this, here are a few other details. I'm top heavy (inverted triangle), have a shortish neck, bobbed chin length hair style, and red hair/freckles. My ability to walk in very high heels is limited, but I do try.

I like all of these. I'm probably going to go with a LBD that I can accessorize and wear on different occasions.

I like all of Ladybug's suggestions! And your black dress looks totally appropriate for nighttime.
