          GOOD NEWS:
2 week check-up, post op, and they put me in a new cast. New color, and shorter! Hooray --
Still zero weight bearing, but looking on the up and up.

BAD NEWS: my orthopod said "no way" to my 20 mile-a-day John Muir Trail hike in Sept.
          "Maybe next year?"
*sigh* I guess we can only do what the body lets us, and mine is going to be still in PT/very weak.

Hang in there and heal fast. Most importantly be nice to yourself. (I personally hated PT, but I can't deny that they are miracle workers). Good luck and happy healing!

Ooh, what's the new color? I'm so sorry you don't get to go on the hike. I hope it works out next year, or you find something similar sooner. Good luck with PT!

Bummer about the walk, but I'm so glad you are healing up well! I love the green cast avatar!

                Happy healing,

Happy healing for you too, Kris! That incision/injury looks absolutely scary to me -- you are a far better trooper than myself.

Update: they're telling me the cast comes off on Monday! Woohoo -- and then, the real fun begins. My "moonboot" and Physical Therapy... If the leg isn't too scary/gross looking due to atrophy, I'll post a new pic. If not, then the new avatar will be my bionic-looking brace

When I have time, I'll post the story from the first time we tried to get the cast off (Mon), which was a total fiasco and resulted in a strongly-worded letter written by DH.
The good news is that I returned yesterday, cast free, and wearing my "moonboot!" It's so hard going from not being able to put your foot down at all, to people telling you to "walk around" in the brace. The incision has healed so well, and the swelling is virtually gone Now all I have to do is attend PT 3x a week for 6 weeks, and shave my uber-hairy leg. Hooray for baby steps

I'm sorry the first try didn't go well. So glad you're making progress now though! Good luck with PT!
