College Alumni group get togethers

Has anyone here ever attended an out-of-state college alumni get together? My alma mater (University of Kentucky) is having a football game get together in a few weeks at a pub on the other side of town. Who knew that I wasn't the only alumnus here in the artic tundra!

I'm thinking about going, but I don't know what to expect. I certainly don't anticipate knowing anyone and it seems like it would be awkward. Does anyone have any positive experiences to report from a similar experience?
