Success stories...well, it takes a while but they CAN get it. EVERY time we caught Molly squatting in the house we immediately picked her up and took her outside. I was told that if you make a loud noise, like a clap, it will surprise them for just a minute and they usually pause so you can pick them up and take them outside. This doesn't always work and you're bound to get some on you sometimes but eventually they get the point. Keep praising him when he does it outside too, they will get it, it just takes time. Molly was born last June and I don't think she was fully housetrained until late October.
The other thing is to use a word that they know, we use potty, another friend uses business for her word. When you're praising them say "good potty" or when you pick them up and take them out mid-action say "outside to go potty" they will get it, it just takes time.
Molly is now 15 months old and when we say its time to go out and go potty she always heads straight for the door.
Good luck!
