  • Play-do Recipe??

Does anyone here know the play-do recipe...I know that there is one that you can make with flour/salt, etc... I would like to make some for the kids!

    Thanks,

    Kris

You can also make playdough with baking soda and cornstarch. If I'm remembering correctly it's as follows. Sounds weird, and I've never tried it, so tell me how it works. I've always used the flour/salt/water recipe myself.

Here's the other one, which I got from a kids craft show on TV.

    1 cup baking soda
    1/2 cup corn starch
    water (can't remember how much)

Bring mixture to a boil, then simmer for 5 mins on low. Let cool. Presto playdough. I don't know if this needs baking like the flour/salt/water stuff.

On another note, have you ever tried using "Fimo" clay with your kids. It's wonderful stuff.

        Hi Kris,

Sorry I haven't answered you in so long. I wasn't checking the message board for ages.

Fimo is usually available in art supply stores. It's modelling clay that artists use. It stays soft like plastacine (softened by your body heat when you work with it), and than hardens ONLY when you bake it in the oven at low temps. It's fun to make pins for kids with it. You make your pin or fridge magnet, then you put a safety pin or a magnet on the back, then bake it.

Be careful not to bake it at higher temps or longer than suggested.

        Have fun...

That sounds really neat! I am going to have to buy some....do you know if it is non-toxic? I can imagine that little Alex may put it in his mouth!

Not sure about the non-toxic part. I just saw Fimo at Michael's craft store (the big chain). What's new since I bought it is that they now have a soft version...

            Have fun.
