The most profound thing to me about this book has been the nature of the abduction. I have let my daughter look down the Barbie aisle while I stand in the next aisle with Alex and Andrew looking at matchbox cars. In a blink of this mother's eyes she lost her little boy and I really had this feeling that it could have been anyone....it could happen to any of us...and I found that to be unsettling. I guess I have been lulled into a false sense of safety, thinking it ok to leave the kids in the car after I get gas to pay ..... and reading this made me realize how fast something this devastating could happen.
I was a bit disgusted with her reaction though...I thought it was irresponsible of her to get drunk and leave her baby with others. I think that if something like that happened to me that I would need to be with my other children and husband.
