alphabet...

By what age do you think a child needs to know the alphabet?

I was out of town when this thread was posted and I never saw it until today.



Each child is so different in the way they learn that I don't know if there is a set age that they should know the alphabet. I would say by kindergarten. One of my boys took forever to learn to recognize all the letters and I was concerned but he is in the top reading group in his class now that he is in 2nd grade so I think it just took him a little longer to get going. My 3rd boy learned the alphabet song by the time he was 2 years old and then started recognizing the letters on their own. He knows most of the sounds of the letters now and I am starting him on putting sounds together. He still has another year before kindergarten. But, Tyler picks things up easily and my older two took much longer.



Okay... I am just rambling. Hope this made some sense.
