My 6 year old got 3 stitches above his eye last night! He was supposed to be in bed, but was up in the bathroom playing in the water. My husband started up the stairs and when he heard him he took off towards his room, slipped on the water and fell into the door handle .... we really need to think about reversing the locks ! He was so brave about it though....I was at kinkos when it happened (thesis, thesis) and Thomas called me all hysterical (do your spouses react to emergencies with family members like this?) screaming at me to come home. When I got home, I went to comfort him and he told me "oh mom, it's just going to be a few stitches. I'm not scared". I told him it was ok to be scared and he rolled his eyes at me...and my husband said that when the doctor saw him that she started the whole..."it will feel like a beesting" thingy and Andrew just said..."I will need two or three stitches. Please get started."

I paced the floors at home and when they got back his attitude was "oh MOOOOM"

boohoo...my baby is growing up..when did this happen?

How brave. Was this his first time for stitches. Amy had her first stitches at 10, and Caroline just had her first stitches this summer (she is 16).

Poor Andrew! We haven't done stitches at our house yet which is really quite remarkable (I think) with 4 boys! We actually came close once with Tyler but Russ just butterflied it. Now he wishes he had taken him in because Tyler has a nice scar across the forehead! Russ is the calm one when it comes to the kids getting hurt. I don't freak out either but I think I go into shock a little and I can't think of what the right thing to do is as quickly as I would like. Does that make sense?! Anyway... Andrew was very brave!

You should be a proud Mom!

I just reread this thread and had to laugh about my comments. Here I was so proud that my kids haven't had stitches yet and what did I do last weekend but spend the afternoon in the ER with Tyler!! He was lucky because the cut was so straight they decided to Dermabound it shut. Super glue to the rescue!!! Unfortunately, it was infected two days later!! YUK! So we have been finishing up the antibiotics and hoping the scar won't be too bad. So much for my perfect record!!

Oh NO!!! And Andrew's best friend called last week from Florida..he fell out of a tree and had to get 11 stitches under his arm!!! It must be the season for these things...

Well, I hope that the infection clears up and that he won't get a big scar!!! Poor guy!
