  • finger sucking solutions?

Recently, my son began sucking two fingers when he becomes nervous. At a halloween party on Friday afternoon, he sucked his fingers constantly and wouldn't say a single word. In the car ride on the way home, he chattered constantly and didn't suck his finger once. How do I curb this bad habit? How do I make him feel more comfortable in new situations? Should I reintroduce a pacifier?

I'd say that if he is without his pacifier now that there is no need to reintroduce it.....as tempting as it might be...

I think that a lot of kids go through the finger sucking phase...and it eventually goes away....The only thing that I would suggest is to not pay attention to it...as hard as that is. Finny was a finger-sucker, nail biter, etc, etc. And I went absolutely nuts trying to keep her from doing it....

My mom told me to ignore her and I just couldn't. As a last resort, I stopped paying attention to it even though it ate me up inside...and she stopped ! You might try diverting his attention when you notice him sucking on his fingers...like if he puts his fingers in his mouth you might just get out the legos and ask him to help you build a monster or somthing...to keep those little fingers busy!

    I'm with ya...I know!
