OK...Andrew turns 7 on Tuesday...and since we are still fairly new here and I don't know many moms, I went ahead and sent out invitations to Andrew's class at school...I figured that at least a few of his good friends there would come...

What I put on the invites is basically that the party is 3-5.30, that we'll be having cake and watching "The Grinch"....now I just need some fun party games for the kids....any suggestions for this age group?

I like the cookie decorating idea! Yesterday we had the third birthday party for my twin girls. One of the things did was hide candy canes all over the family room and had a candy cane hunt. You could do this at any time of year with whatever candy you want.

The other thing we did was pass out those little blow toys that unroll when you blow into them. Get the ones with plastic mouthpieces, as the paper ones disintigrate with toddler slobber!

How about decorating Christmas sugar cookies? My boys love doing that.

        Musical chairs with Christmas music.

Pin the red nose on Rudolph.

Have them make simple tree ornaments.

I will have to think about it more and see what I come up with. I am sure that whatever you do, it will be a great success. I loved every one of my birthday parties!!!

Well, here is the scoop on the party...yesterday was nuts....15 kids ended up showing up (add in Amanda and Alex and that makes 17). Thomas had to work and couldn't make it back in time and the parents started bringing their children a whole half an hour early! I had just realized that I didn't have film in my camera and was going to run to the store and grab a throw away when the bell rang I went to ask the neighbor then if I could borrow film or have HER run to the store (egads) and after she gave me film I realized that my camera battery was dead Another neighbor found a throw-away camera at his house and gave it to me ....the shame of it all

I went super cheap on this party...this was the birthday for less than $50!!!!! I got rugrats plates, tablecloth, napkins, etc...at the dollar store. They also had a whole craft isle and so I bought a big bag ($1) of foam stars and got a good deal on a bunch of beads from containers that had been broken...so we made necklaces for the moms and star magnets for the dads...the kids decorated the magnets in glitter/glue. I got red wrapping tissue paper there and some gifts for the kids (little math games that Andrew picked out!) and they even sold all kinds of cokes, etc...unbelievable, really!!!! I baked the cake myself......it was great!

Only 4 kids ended up watching the entire Grinch movie....the rest ran through the basement play area and had fun until their parents came..........but one girl's NANNY picked her up an entire hour late!!!! She didn't call or anything...finally, the little girl asked to use the phone to call home (duh...why didn't I think of it!) and her mom was at home and said that the nanny couldn't find the house ....she was supposedly right around the corner, but it took another 25 minutes for her to get there...I don't know about that one...but I felt sorry for the little girl....

All in all...it was a success in my son's eyes....and the kids seemed to have fun....I slept VERY WELL last night

WOW! that's wonderful!! I'm really pleased and trilled for you.

Our party went well too. I got Caillou plates and hats, and made the cake myself too. I decorated it with the colors of frosting my girls wanted, and later decided I would NOT open a cake decorating business. Yes, they didn't know the difference, but some of the parents chuckled at my rendition of a Christmas tree.
