Well, it is official. We are leaving for Germany on December 30th. My husband's father is ill (just had his second leg amputated) and we haven't seen his parents in 3 years. We took some of the money from Thomas' sign-on bonus and used it for tickets...but it might cost us getting a house next year...it was expensive.

So we are going to celebrate Christmas twice.....yippee!

Kristen, I'm sorry to hear that your husband's father isn't doing well. That must be so upsetting, especially since you are so far away. It will be wonderful for them to see their grandchildren (and your youngest for the first time!), and for your children to see their grandparents. Not to mention that I am sure your husband misses his parents.

I've heard of doctors getting a mortgage for 100% of the house price (in the US I've heard of this, as I think the Canadian minimum is 5% down). That would be a good option, perhaps, considering that it would likely not increase your monthly payment terribly much. Maybe you can still have your house when you move. I hope so, as I can imagine how much you and your husband want this.

How long are you gone for? We will miss you here very much!

Chad and I had 2 banks offer us 100% financing. It didn't affect the payment hardly at all, since with that type of mortgage we didn't have to pay monthly mortgage insurance or points.

So, don't count that house out yet!

Really...what banks? We have been talking with Marquest Financial...they have a special section for physician loans...and they told us that we have 670 points and need 700...and that in order to do that we would have to lose our carpayment and reduce some of our credit card debt...that was to get the 100% financing...we can't afford anything else. Because of Thomas' moonlighting (he didnt pay enough taxes on it...)we will owe around 6800$ tax...oops, Thomas is home..gotta gol

If I remember correctly, the first bank was First Union. We recieved a mailing from them telling us about their Physician's Home Finance Program, which included 100% financing. The 2nd bank was our local bank here in Panama City. We went with the local bank because they had really gone the extra mile to get our business and we knew that doing business with them would be of more value to us in the future (they were local and we are on a more personal level with them). You did have to go through the application process and all with First Union, but they promised that it would only take 48 hrs. Getting that mailing was the first I had ever heard of "physician home loans", but now I've heard more people saying that they've been offered them too, so they're out there, you just have to find them.

I would definitely look into it some more if I were you.
