Jon is done with interviews as of yesterday. His initial list is complete (he will be praying and thinking about it he told me before he completely puts it "in stone"). Yes, Hopkins is at the top. It is a pipe dream I think. I would LOVE him to have his way - it is an oportunity of a lifetime and he has and will do all he can to get the places at the top of his list, but let's face it - they have half a dozen radiology positions and interviewed dozens of students. I am going to be very, very, very unemotional about the whole thing until we find out on match day because if I root for one place for him or for myself, I am bound to be disappointed (plus, I don't take rejection well). But, OH MAN, Lynn, if we end up at that place I will DEFINITELY tell you guys! Another top pick of my husband's is in Gainseville, FL. I seem to remember that at least one person here lives there (or maybe several of you?). Anyway, that is another place on THE LIST (say that in a deep voice with an echo - it is a list of our possible futures for goodness sake!)

OK, guys, I screwed up. I am no longer anonymous!!! Anyway, I was trying to fix the problem and put the post back under my nom de pleur (spelling?) and I ended up deleting all of the good advice I was given! PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, if I deleted any of your posts, repost them here! It was all very, very good advice and I am SORRY for the all of the mistakes I made regarding my other post and trying to fix it! I am embarrassed now, so I hope no one is laughing too hard at me or has gotten mad!

Kristen is the one who currently lives in Gainesville. I live in Panama City. It would be nice to have you relatively close by, but I hope that you and Jon get Hopkins if that is what you really want.

                I'm excited for you!

                      Hi Jennifer!

I can fill you in on Hopkins and some of the Maryland stuff...maybe it will help you guys to decicide.1st thing...if he wants hopkins as a 1st pick and your worried about all the others that interviewd,i say go for it! There are bound to be a few like you that think it's a waste of time so there may not be as many trying for it as you think! You guys could luck out!Don't let the big name scare you off either.Hopkins is huge and is many different hospitals and clinics here...not just the big main one you think of.Housing IS affordable here in so many different price ranges.Hopkins is in the worst area of the city...so no way do you want to live there. You move to any of the counties outside the city, some better then others but all are nice.I sold a house to a doctor that worked out hopkins..he was a resident doing heart research. He got free housing from them.It was right behind the hospital..not the main hopkins but a big one none the less.So you could check about the free house. It wasn't much to look at or live in but...hey...it was free! Also before phill got this job last year he had interviewed at hopkins for a job. They really wanted him but they wanted him to be medical director at one of the centers. And the pay was fantastic too.Phill was thrilled...just as excited as your husband. But i said to him...hey..this is NOT what we wanted..to be a medical director is a LOT of long work and long hours. We were newly married then and i knew it would be hard on our marriage. We had agreed that our marriage would always come 1st.I was just as excited as he was and i told him...why don't we just call everyone and tell them hopkins offered you a great job and then you get the thrill and pride of telling them. After he got the job and worked himself to death who would care anyway? So he turned the job down.My POINT to all this is...every doctor would love to be at Hopkins...cause it's the best.Even phill who had been a doctor 20+years..plus he'd already worked at Stanford,he was in charge of the Family Practice residentcy program there for a while.Plus he knew what our goals were...to have the best marriage we could. And even he was lured by the magic of Hopkins! It different for you two tho...you'd know how long you'd have a hard timing with all that training and stuff...BUT you'd know when he finished at Hopkins he could get a great job anywhere! It's a tradeoff...but a good one.As far as family friendly..i can't tell you schooling wise, but let me say that when he gets out and finally starts a job...the word family friendly flies out the door! How much money a doctor makes depends how hard he works.Be it by himself or in a group.Office expenses are unbelievable...plus all the student loan debt.If he's home with family alot he's not making much to pay the bills and bring the rest home.Plus he has to work hard to build his practice up in the begining. It's hard at every stage.Phill and i have found setting goals helps tho. This is another subject tho and i can post more later if you all want to hear about it.But Jennifer...go for it...it's the whole rest of your life..and Md. is very nice and i think you can do it!
