        I would love to chat...

We try and make it Mondays at 10pm EST but often end up finding times/days that fit our schedules better. When would be good for you?

I would be more than happy to chat on a weekday evening around 9pm CST. The bad days are Mon and Thurs. Best is probably a Wed.

The reason I made this post is that most books about medical marriages begin by saying that the physician should marry a strong person. And that is understandable considering the strain the spouse is put under. But what about those spouses that aren't so strong and/or are possibly also dealing with a mental illness? This makes it doubly hard.

I would assume that I am not the only out there facing this situation. Talking with others in a similar situation would be somewhat therapeutic, not to mention a relief. It seems as though most people in the field (both physicians and spouses) just don't want to acknowledge that the lifestyle is a struggle. Which for me makes it all that more difficult.

It's interesting what you have read, Adrienne, about how MDs should marry strong people. I feel that in my nine year relationship with my husband that I've actually gotten more insecure as time goes on. The stresses are to blame, but also my own way of coping with them. Strangely enough, it's my MD husband who suffers from chronic, low-grade depression. I've given up thinking that maybe I could make him "happy". But it's tough to be on the outside and hear all the complaints from him, looking at someone who has so much to be thankful for.

As a result, I think he really brings my moods down. Lately I've felt very depressed... I sometimes wonder if I am kidding myself that we can be happy as long as he is an MD. He just doesn't do well with stress...

Sorry to be so down, but I guess that is exactly what we are talking about here!
