  • Roof Racks: Basket or Box?

So our new Mazda5 is working out OK, but it has not much luggage space, so for our very occasional trips, we'll need roof cargo space.
I just ordered a roof rack, and now need to decide if I should get one of those ultra cool looking cargo boxes, or a basket type thing with a netting to keep the stuff in. I think that given the bulky double stroller and stuff, a basket would be right, huh?
Any experience with any of this stuff? I've always been able to fit everything in a hatchback.

Want to buy a Thule cargo box? Cheap? I was amazed by how much stuff we got in there. I haven't used the other thing and can't compare.

We've got a Thule and I love it! It opens from both sides (but don't open both sides at once! ) and it's easy to get stuff in and out of. I don't know exactly which one we have but I bet it's the biggest one that would fit on my 6 and not look ridiculous. I can get both dogs' crates and a couple of carry-ons in there.

We loved the Thule rack too. So far, we haven't needed it on the minivan but I would recommend it.

My friend has a Thule. They bought it on their move from Little Rock to Anchorage (which they DROVE). They love it. Not sure about fitting the stroller though.
