Daegan was born at 30w5d....still pretty darn early, but nothing like a 22 weeker!! I'm actually a little surprised they tried to save her. I was told most NICUs don't accept a child less than 23 weeks...and many not before 24 weeks. The babies born earlier than this go to the nursery for 'comfort care' until they pass. Way to go Miami NICU!

ETA: I just read that she was conceived via in vitro...so they knew her dates and that might have also played into why they tried to save her.

Wow, this is how far along I am right now--I cannot imagine!

We have friends who had their baby at 24 weeks, she was 1 lbs 9 oz and survived and his doing wonderful at 2 years old. Miracles happen!

I heard the neonatologist ( I *think*) of this baby on NPR. Basically the baby responded very well to all treatments given, and just went hour to hour, day to day, and some miraculous way this baby survived. The dr. was very careful to state that something like >1% of babies this early survive, that it was just an amazing situation. Pretty unbelievable isn't it!
