  • Our first swim meet

We went to our first swim meet yesterday. Holy hot and steamy indoor pool. Yikes. I didn't do swim team when I was growing up and this is all new to me. The story is this was a nice and short meet because it was only three hours long. Three hours to swim less than 2 minutes?

She really liked it. It appeals to her competitive spirit. I think we will do the community center swim team this summer (community center = inexpensive and lower-pressure). I'm not sure if I am ready to kiss Saturday mornings goodbye. Except during soccer season. :>

Wowza! How old is Bryn? 3 hours and she only got so swim one event? Was Anna with you?

I hate sitting in rooms w/pools. Love being in the pool. Hate the humidity and pool smell if I'm not in it.

She is six -- rather six and a half. She swam three 25 yard events. Each one took about 30 seconds. Anna was with me, wilting. I should have brought a short sleeve shirt for her. We left a few times for fresh air but still...blech on the chlorine.

It was fun to watch the younger kids figuring out how a meet works. They would take the position on the diving blocks and then stand up and do some crazy jump instead of a dive. Bryn opted to dive from the edge. She hates the diving blocks.

How fun (except for the 3 hour wait, which would have sent me to the funny farm!). That's great that you guys have a swim team and that she can be a part of it! Go Bryn Go!

How does she do with the chlorine? Andrew and Amanda have such sensitive skin...they have swimming right now and their eczema just goes crazy....

Just wait- if she REALLY likes it, and continues? My mom LOVED those 5am practices of mine. (that lasted one year. I wasn't good enough to compete at that level after a certain age)

It's fun to see your kids enjoying things, even if you have to give up Saturday mornings to make it happen. WTG Bryn and Nellie!

Thanks! If she gets to the point of 5am practices someday, Dad is in charge of swimming. :>

No eczema here, Kris, but we do get dry skin. They put on lotion after showering off and that helps and we do thicker lotion (stuff in a jar) at home. If she swims every day this summer, she will have to wear her swim cap. She uses it about half the time but I think it really cuts back on the dry hair and tangles.
