Xander and I just got back from the Dr's office...he has an ear infection in both ears (he had a really bad on ein Feb too)...that explains the lack of sleep for the past 2 nights I guess! The thing is, neither one of the other boys ever had an ear infection...ever! Any ideas or hints about things to avoid etc?

One of my kids had a bunch of ear infections and the other didn't. It seemed to get better with age. I tried a couple different things but I think time was the best aid.
ETA: With the last ear infection, our pediatrician gave me a prescription for antibiotics but asked me to wait 48 hours to see if the symptoms cleared. I gave her Tylenol in the meantime, waited, and after about 36 hours she was better. That didn't work with my older daughter but it was nice to avoid the antibiotics.

DS has had them from birth ending up getting grommits at 14 months. The ENT said he was a particularly bad case and he wouldn't have been able to hear anything other than muffled sounds since he was a baby.
Night time was obviously the worst as lying down changed the pressures and even in his sleep he was constently trying to sit up so rather than propping him up with pillows we put a couple of books under the legs of the top end of the cot so he wasn't completely flat.
Also gave him regular tylenol and brufen for pain. Im not sure if there is any tips for preventing ear infections.
I had loads as a kid and had grommits 4 times and when I became old enough the doctors thought me how to autoinflate (pop) my ears and I had to do that 20 times a day and it cut down my infections by about 80-90% but then again I was also getting a little bit older and may have been growing out of them anyway.
Since the grommits ds has only had a couple infections and thats only since they fell out. Hope your little one gets over it soon, its no fun at all.
