  • Sling mommas

I can't find part of the Baby Bjorn so I'm using my Hotsling. Miss E has decided that maybe the sling isn't so bad after all. That is the good news. The bad news is that I would really prefer to have the weight distributed over both shoulders.

I think I am wearing it correctly -- it matches with the photos but I still feel like my shoulder is being pressed in and it is kind of uncomfortable. Maybe I'll post a pic. Is it this sling?

Any suggestions for something other than an BB that spreads weight over both sides? I need to find my Ergo -- also missing -- and try that.

You might like a mei tai

It's kinda like the Ergo, but much less bulky and you tie the straps instead of buckles.

But I must admit, I'm a wrapper, through and through.

You have the wrap over both shoulders, right?

I think this sling is a size too big. After I returned it for a bigger size.

I found the Ergo. The meitai is cute! Much cuter than an Ergo.

Glad you found the Ergo! I used the Ergo more at Jazz Fest...my dad even wore Daegan for a bit! I still like my wrap more, but did find some affection for the Ergo.

The wrap goes over both shoulders....and (depending on which carry you are doing) does distribute weight to the waist. There are different ways to wrap it and it does take some time to learn to tie properly, but I think it's the best carrier!

I don't know exactly where you live, but there might be a NINO group nearby....and they should have a mei tai or a wrap to lend you if you want to try them out! http://www.nineinnineout.org/localgroups.htm

From my (limited) research into pouch sizing...most people buy too big if left to buy on their own without proper help. I have a Hotslings pouch and I think it's rather uncomfortable for more than 15 minutes....using a hip carry.

Gah. Just lost my post. I think that I did have the right size sling -- for my size now. It was too small post-partum so I traded up and I suspect too big. Oh well, even for that period when it probably fit it hurt my shoulder after a while (even with it spread over my shoulder). It's weird -- it feels like having it go a little down my arm pushes my arm in and cramps it.

My right hip is just killing me and the Ergo feels pretty good on it. Too bad it is a little fugly.

I signed up for the yahoo group and hopefully will find a meeting where I can try a mei tai. Thanks!

you guys are getting me all excited about slings!! I've found a sling libary here where you get to try out practically every sling on the market and see which one suits and you can go off and buy then, but I need the baby to put put in it  I'm looking forward to trying a wrap, the peanut shell, hot sling, and I like the look of the mei-tai too. I used the baby bjorn a lot with DS but was unaware of the amount of other choice for baby wearing out there at the time.

I have a mei tai but it starts to hurt after about a half hour. Plus for me, it is really hard to get on by myself. Mine is from Chinatown in San Fran- it has little puppies and kitties on it. I am really stylin when I wear it. I would like an Ergo but I dont want to cough up the change for one.

I have seen used ones on Craiglist and Ebay.

Oh, and I know someone who might be interested in selling. It's the older model. Want me to ask?

Sure, but one caveat- how much longer will i use it with a 12m old?

I didn't start using it until around 12 months or a little later as a back carrier.

                      I'll ask her tomorrow.

I've heard the older Ergo is better than the new generation. Also my Ergo packets says you can use it comfortably until the child is about 40 pounds. Of course YMMV.

I think that super-human parents can use those to 40 pounds but I can't imagine. Anna is around 33 right now and has two great legs to get herself around. Other than an occasional carry or piggy back ride, she has to walk. I suppose I could try but I can't imagine having her in the external frame backpack.

I don't know if the mei tai would be the same issue for the back carry but a word of caution on the Ergo back carry. One time Anna was having a tantrum and nearly flipped herself out by arching her back and getting a foot on something -- my hip? So, it isn't for pitching a fit, IMO. Otherwise, if they are fairly happy in there it is ok. She can still get on my back from my hip so easily by sliding under my arm and swinging her leg around. Little monkey.

Alison -- you won't regret that frame backpack. I used ours a lot.

Thanks, Sylvia. I have one of those too. I just need to shift the weight a little and get more of it on my hips. The Ergo is working really well. I'm so glad I found its hiding spot.
