  • Ice Skating

I found an ice-skating class for 3yos at the local rink- I think the first class is on Saturday. Anyone start their kiddos this young? I figure had he remained in Russia, he's probably be on a hockey team already!

He needs an activity and he's so athletic- I'm hoping he enjoys it. It's been made very clear that swimming is currently of NO interest.

Ice skating is one of my "things I want my kid to know" items. (of course, so is swimming but you have to actually want to put a toe in the water before you can learn to swim)

I love ice skating. I'm bad at it, but I love activities that have to do with ice and snow. I think it will be great for Nikolai! Good luck!

I had mine taking lessons last year. Jacob did pretty well, Quinn ... he'd need to repeat. I think he was about 3.5 . But we DON'T have the Russian genes, nor the athletic ones ... poor kids.

I think my brother started that young. It's easier for them to learn stuff when they're that little, I say go for it!

There's ice skating in TX? In the summer? I started ice skating lessons around 5, but back in the dark ages we only did it in the winter.

Air conditioned indoor ice skating rinks. The mall back home in Alaska was built around the rink: it is (was?) on the bottom floor, then each level above that was open so you could look down on the skaters.

Funny thing, my mom encouraged us to skate (don't think we had lessons, just went out on the pond during the winter) but wouldn't sign my brother up for hockey. She thought it was too violent.

He ended up in high school football anyway.

I think that you're on the right track. My eager DH put DS in skating lessons at three. Much to his chagrin, our son let us know that skatign was not his thing...at all. (So much for some MN father/son hockey bonding). We respected that and we found that our son happens to be a swimmer at heart. Others in his class seemed to really enjoy it, however.

                See what sticks.
