    Nikolai came to us sucking his fingers but has never attached to one particular toy/blanket. He refused a pacifier (thought I'd try during one desperate moment while we were still in Russia.

    He has stuffed animals that he snuggles with but none more than any of the others-

    I think it's a kid by kid thing.

    Now, when we did get him back from Russia he was so used to sharing his crib that he did the Spread Eagle thing when we'd put him down and just crack up laughing when he didn't find anyone. He's definitely a "give me my personal space" kind of guy.

      Each daughter was/is attached to something. DD#1 has a teddy bear (it doesn't look like one anymore) that she has to sleep with and have around the house. We take it on all trips. She also used a binky until 2.5, but after 12 months only at bedtime.

      DD#2 has a stuffed doll that she carries with her everywhere. That thing is ragged and she won't accept anything new. She also sucks her fingers. We can rationalize with her at times when it is best to leave in the car, but it pretty much is constantly attached to her. She also sucks her fingers. It will be interesting at preschool this fall where they try to keep loveys in their bag.

      DD#3 has latched on to a stuffed doll as well. It is so cute and I got smart this time and bought a back up one.

      We just stuck them in the crib with them and they became attached. The most frustrating thing is trying to find them in the house at bedtimes. Ugh!

        I think for us it was around 1 - 1.5. I used the same blanket every time I nursed her and that is what she has attached to.
        Cranky Wife to a Peds EM in private practice. Mom to 5 girls - 1 in Heaven and 4 running around in princess shoes.

          Maybe we are lucky, or maybe I did something right from the start(inadvertantly)

          Our little one has two stuffed animals he loves, and a few others that are part of the 'friends' gang.

          We have just always told him 'reasons' why things have to be the way they are sometimes.

          eg.

          Dragon does not go in stores, parks, outside, etc...because he would get dirty or lost.

          Dragon can go in the car, but if he falls while driving 'daddy' can't get because he has to pay attention to the road.

          etc...

          Lucky we are perhaps because the 'rules' I use don't change and he buys them.
