We get out at the end of May or 1st of June and don't go back to school until usually after the first week of September....So I guess it is 3 months and 1 week or so....

I don't know if I have asked you this before, Kris, but do you ever send your kids to Germany? Would you?

My parents sent me to Japan for two summers. Once when I was 12, and again when I was in high school. I stayed with my mom's cousins for about 2 weeks, then went to my dad's aunt and uncle. They had a small store where I was put to "work." It was great!

The only thing we're doing this summer is swimming lessons, weekly trips to the library, summer reading program the library, and weekly trips to the zoo. Nothing too intense.

DD#1 will be starting 1st grade and DD#2 will be starting preschool this fall. I can't believe I don't have babies or even toddlers anymore!

The germany question came up while my mil is here. Basically, mil and Andrew (12 1/2) decided that he was going to go there for 2 weeks this summer.

Really, though we are behind in this regard, we just finally last year did a 1 week summer camp away from home with our older 3...and...even though it was about 20 minutes from our house, Andrew was the most home-sick of all of our children.....

I don't know how he would travel internationally on his own AND survive 2 weeks of mil without cracking.

          We're still considering it though....

*I* for one don't intend to let my son fall behind his peers! Our summer program will focus heavily on the sciences and language arts. Edward will be learning quite a lot of physics (Things fall when I drop them! I fall when I let go!) and has also shown an interest in zoology that we will be developing (Kitty! Doggy!) Since Daddy is a doctor, we will of course have plenty of anatomy lessons starting with the musculoskeletal system (I can move my legs and arms!)

Edward is involved in an immersion language acquisition program that we will continue through the summer. His literary tastes continue to expand as well and we're encouraging that by exposing him to more interesting fare according to his interests.

We also have educational field trips planned and we will be tailoring these lessons according to our locale (Grandma's Kitty!)

Mine is a bit over two and a half this summer, we go to the Y a few days a week for swimming. Have a wed morning playgroup, and me and the other stay at home dads drag them to parks, on city busses, local firestation, etc..
