I've read the books and tried and tried to get my 3 month old to take longer than a 20-30 min nap with no luck! Playing longer, more stimulation, held off feeding a little longer, rocked longer for deeper sleep, laid him down partially awake and every time he is right back up. He will sleep for longer periods in the car seat but no where else. He is not cranky after waking.... just a short napper!

Anyone have issue like this... did your child outgrow them? Advice?

I'm starting to learn to let go of napping expectatiions. My son fell into a reliable pattern with routinely longer stretches around 6-7 mos when he went to two naps.

DS didn't fall into any sort of regular napping routine until he was about 4-5 months old. Maybe your little one is too young to be doing the long naps? Or, I think some kids are just catnappers, they can get by on the short naps. I have some friends whose children are this way, maybe yours is too?

Sorry, this was probably not helpful.

We had/have a catnapper. Eventually, I learned to just roll with it.

Like spotty_dog's little guy, DS was a catnapper till about 7 months when he went down to two naps.

Our last baby was a non-sleeper until about 5 months. It wasn't fun. Now at 9 months we have a fabulous sleeper. I recommend, "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" it helped a lot with the last two babies if not just for reassurance.

              Thanks for sharing....

Sounds like I am going to have to work with the short naps.
He does go to bed for the night at 6:30 so I can't complain!

Our baby also took very short naps until he was a few months old. Now at 7 months, he still sometimes takes a half hour nap and is ready to rumble. But he gets the solid ones in too.
Don't worry, it'll happen for you.
