BumGenius at Target!!! I'll look at ours...I doubt we'll get them for a LONG time, but maybe Jax Fl will have them!! I just bought some 3.0s and I like the improvements so far (new velcro, staydry sheild front panel thing, seems to be better elastic and longer pocket cover). I also like that they include a newborn insert now so it's less stuffing for a smaller babe.

They came to "select markets" quite a while ago but it looks like they are branching out now, because I found them at my Target! I bought the last 3 non-pink ones. They were $17.95, same as online but no shipping! Sweet. (They were on the end cap with the other "alternative" baby products, like Babylegs and Baby Ktan wraps.) I've really wanted to try 3.0 and my excuse was going to be that I'm planning to ship all my old pocket diapers off to get the elastic repaired before NextBaby comes.

I checked our Target and they don't carry them. I figured. Where are you sending your diapers for repair?? I've talked my mom into doing them b/c it's gotten too hard to sew with Daegan.

I tried to do mine, I managed two diapers and they've already crapped out again. I'm trying http://hyenacart.com/sarahsstitches because she's in a community with me and she charges $2.50 per diaper for 10 or more.

            Just read this... kinda interesting.

Blow to image of ‘green’ reusable nappyMarie Woolf, Whitehall Editor
A government report that found old-fashioned reusable nappies damage the environment more than disposables has been hushed up because ministers are embarrassed by its findings.

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has instructed civil servants not to publicise the conclusions of the £50,000 nappy research project and to adopt a “defensive” stance towards its conclusions.

The report found that using washable nappies, hailed by councils throughout Britain as a key way of saving the planet, have a higher carbon footprint than their disposable equivalents unless parents adopt an extreme approach to laundering them.

To reduce the impact of cloth nappies on climate change parents would have to hang wet nappies out to dry all year round, keep them for years for use on younger children, and make sure the water in their washing machines does not exceed 60C.

The conclusions will upset proponents of real nappies who have claimed they can help save the planet.

Restricted Whitehall documents, seen by The Sunday Times, show that the government is so concerned by the “negative laundry options” outlined in the report, it has told its media managers not to give its conclusions any publicity.

The report found that while disposable nappies used over 2½ years would have a global warming , impact of 550kg of CO2 reusable nappies produced 570kg of CO2 on average. But if parents used tumble dryers and washed the reusable nappies at 90C, the impact could spiral to . 993kg of CO2 A Defra spokesman said the government was shelving plans for future research on nappies.

              Interesting indeed.

I think I've mentioned in this thread that I just don't care that much about what this or that study shows. I have no way of knowing what the parameters are on this particular version, what inputs they considered, etc. I just know that for me and the aspects of conservation that matter to me personally, cloth edges ahead a bit.

              Plus, CUTE!!!!

I have heard that argument before but have a hard time believing it. I am pretty sure my washer does not wash at 90 degrees C anyway!! And it is HE so that has to be better right?

I missed it before about the Bumgenius at Target!!
That has to be good for cloth diapering. We have a few of the 3.0's and like them. DH friendly and that velcro is strong!! I would be very surprised if they fit Jack until he is potty trained though, they don't seem that big. We'll see.

The actual article was pretty funny when you look at everything. They obviously did not take into account that you can use the diapers for more than one child and the impact of the disposibles on the landfills, not to mention all of the Diaper Genie (and the like) accessories that people use to contain the mess.

I do have a question though - what size prefolds do you use for a newborn? I see the regular sized ones and know there is no way that thing is fitting on a 7-8 pound baby...

Preemie sized prefolds worked great on Eddy, born at 7lb 3oz, for the first week or two (though they were so thin I had to double them up after a few days.) You can then go straight to infants, which will be bulky but not too bad once they're folded and will fit for several months. Or, you can try some of the "alternative" sizes offered by Green Mountain Diapers. In my photo a few posts back you can see a stack of GMD orange-edge newborn. They're designed to fit perfectly for the 5-10 pound range, or up to about 1.5-2 months.
