  • I won't have to pump through college right???

I'm sick of pumping! I know many moms quit pumping after the one-year mark but Daegan isn't really taking any solid foods (and by solid foods, I mean anything other than breastmilk ). Russ has allergies to dairy so I don't want to push cow's milk too early, either. He's only at daycare for 5 hours so I only have to pump enough for 1 bottle, but still it's twice a day to make sure I have enough. Ugh!

I need a pep talk. Tell me he will eat solid foods some day (not too terribly far away). Tell me I'm doing a great thing for him by continuing to pump. Tell me that "this too shall pass." Tell me about your children who skipped the babyfood stage and went right to feeding themselves table food. Tell me anything!!!!!

Does he just refuse to eat? Remember in the beginning it's more about them wearing it and hopefully getting a taste, than it is about them actually enjoying it! What foods have you tried? Once I saw that Russ had a dairy allergy, my idea went out the door. I was gonna suggest plain yogurt, that's what I did w/DD2.

I had a friend that only gave her DS breast milk for the first year, I had honestly never heard of exclusive breast milk feeding for that long .

Ask a ped about soy yogurt, just plain  .
IMO if you start them on sweet stuff you tend to have issues w/ them only wanting the sweet stuff. I have been told by some moms that babies that start w/ fruit and have lots of it, tend to get yeast rashes more frequently.

I was assisiting the kiddos w/ sippy cups w/H2O, when they were around 5 mos old, just to get them use to something else. It took some work, but eventually they were drinking it on their own.

I'm sorry I'm not sure this is much help!

ETA oops :happybirthday: "big" Guy !

If he likes breast milk a lot maybe mixing some oatmeal with the breastmilk would sell him on the solids? Maybe you've already tried it. He will eat. In fact I imagine a day will come where you'll wonder where he puts all of that food.

He'll eat - eventually. My kids both were quite sketchy on the smushy-food and went more for table foods as they became appropriate.

I'm going to give you HUGE props for carrying on this long. I absolutely abhor pumping and would have a hard time keeping myself going if I were you. You're doing an amazing, amazing job.

Happy Birthday little dude! Try some cake ...

Daisy is almost 14 months now and she too was slow to warm up to solids She loves her num nums dearly and when I started offering solid food around 9 months she could take it or leave it. She did much better when I started giving her cut up pasta or baked potato...Have you tried avocados? That was one of her first favs. She eats everything now- we are still nursing, but I have been giving her whole milk too since she turned one. Hope that helps- hang in there girl!

Too bad they're both boys because Nikolai is going to be pooping in his pants in college, it would have been great if his high school prom date had to bring her own bottle. Oh well. Maybe they can be the dorks in the corner who had to bring their moms to the prom.

Happy birthday Daegan! Wow, I can't believe it's been a year already.

I have no advice, but I'm simply amazed you've been pumping for so long. You're awesome!

We're both liberal, they could be prom dates. This made my night!!

We've tried avocado, banana, sweet potato and oatmeal as the biggies. I've also started offering a taste of my food if I deem it appropriate (not too spiced, no obvious allergy triggers, etc). He will eat mashed banana or sweet potato really well one day (as in a tbsp or two) and then refuse it for the next three days. He hates the oatmeal...I've even tried to mix it in the bananas. Right now we are offering cheerios in a high chair at daycare when the feed all the other kiddos. I think he mostly just plays with them, though they said he ate some today.

Do you have to worry about the phytoestrogens in soy? (This may be a very dumb question sorry.)

I guess one awesome thing about all this nursing is that I've continued to lose weight despite eating what and when I want!!!

Thanks for the birthday wishes and the support!!

Oh and Jenn, he didn't want any cake at his party at my folks house! He'll get another shot on Sunday.
