  • vicks on feet for cough?

Has anyone tried this with success?

I read that to soothe nightime coughing, apply Vicks Vaporub on the bottoms of your feet and cover with socks. I don't know if this is some weird thing circulating the net but people seem to think it works.

I HAD to give it a try because my oldest DD is coughing. However, DH decided to give her Benadryl, too. So, now we won't know which worked. I told him it would probably be the Vicks.

My grandmother swears that Vicks is the cure for everything. When we'd go to her house she'd slather us with the stuff at night. In fact, my aunt broke her finger (in nursing school!!!) and still slathered it with Vicks.

I have heard that it does soothe coughs and really, it probably wouldn't hurt!

PS- my grandmother just turned 91 so maybe there's something to the Vicks thing. and her skin care regimen- Dove soap and Vaseline. and really, she's pretty wrinkle free for 91!

My mom used to slather vicks on our necks and then safety pin one of my dad's tube socks around our necks to hold it in. Seemed to help, but who actually knows? I slather it under my nose when it's stuffy, and we have a vicks humidifier that we use when one of us is just generally cruddy. Never even heard of using it on your feet, but I'm sure it couldn't hurt!

My grandma used to make my mom eat the vicks (coated with sugar) b/c she didn't understand how it could work on the outside.

        Not suggesting this ...

This reminds me of Chris Rock talking about being poor in the 'hood how his mama would give him 'Tussin (generic Robitussin) for anything and everything. "Got a broken leg? Pour a little 'tussin on it".

I don't know. My elderly great aunt said to put a little Jack Daniels in my baby's bottle when he got colicky. Gotta love these hand-me-down remedies.

Actually I have heard that the feet readily absorb...though I haven't heard of using vick's there.

I've seen this! It's like My Big Fat Greek Wedding and the Windex!
My husband has this cream from Germany that he uses on his (and my) lips at night. He puts it on cuts, burns, things that itch.

My parents used to rub Tiger Balm (pretty much the same as Vick's) on my back when I was sick. It used to come in glass bottles.

I'm getting over a bad cold and will put Vick's on my feet tonight and report back.

DH's family used to rug an egg all over him when he was sick.

                (It's a traditional healer thing!)

No clue about vicks. We are all about benadryl and other nasty tasting stuff.
