  • I am too old

for Chuck E. Cheese. It's official. Nathan wanted to eat dinner there for his birthday on Friday, but knowing what it would be like on a Friday night, I talked him into waiting until this week. So, tonight it was. Ohmygosh. I am just so over it. We got some package with 50 tokens and the boys were off. WAY sooner than I would have imagined, DS #2 was back at the table asking for more tokens. I told him no, and you would have thought I had said that the dog had died. He sat there and pouted for about twenty minutes until the pizza came. I had to prevent DS #1 from spending $10 of his own money to buy himself more damn tokens. DH questioned my actions on this one, thinking that natural consequences might have been punishment enough, but I glared at him across the table and declared loudly that I wasn't going to sit around in there getting a headache while DS #1 trolled for more crap prizes. We left as Chuck E. and company were singing "you say happy, I say birthday! HAPPY! BIRTHDAY! etc." and somehow it followed us to the car. I had HAD it with the ungrateful children (although DS #3 had been blissfully happy the whole time) but didn't want to end the evening on a negative note. So I started my own version of the song....."you say stinky, I say poop" and we were off. We laughed so hard on the way home that I am surprised we didn't drive off the road. (BTW, stinky poop was the *least* offensive thing that was yelled in the car. Apparently, saying gross stuff is one part of "Mothers of Boys 101" that I aced. Teaching middle school probably didn't hurt me any, either.)

I hope to God that is my last trip to Chuck E.'s house forever, or at least until I have grandkids and am deaf. It was a prime place to see DH's patients, too......always fun to watch him when they come up to him and know he has no idea what their names are but would DIE if they realized that, so he is just as nice as can be to them so they won't notice. Cracks me up every time :>

You are a very brave woman.

PS- I think anyone over 15 is probably too old for that place.

      Ditto Jenn.

If I am in Chuck E Cheese for more than 20 minutes -- guaranteed migraine.

My mom always hated Chuck E Cheese and rarely brought me and my brothers there. The robots on stage always kinda freaked me out anyway.

          Sally,

Chuck-E-Cheese aside...I'm so glad to hear that I'm not the only mom of boys who has mastered the potty talk...I actually think "The day my butt exploded" is funnier than my 3rd grader. Captain Underpants? Why NOT?

ETA: The title is actually "They Day my Butt went psycho" I wonder where I got the day my butt exploded from My kids would argue that I'm just drawing on personal experience Sorry if that's too gross!

It is embarrassing how gross I can be. My mother would DIE! I have to "hold it in" if I am not around people who understand.

I hate Chuck E Cheese with a passion that is hard to describe. I always roll the IL's under the bus when they're around, and suggest that they take the boys. :P

As far as the poop talk - being the Mother of Boys has not gotten me there back. In fact, when they make a poop or fart joke they have to pay me a buck.

Shhhhhh. My kids don't think there is a Chuck E. Cheese here. It's kind of hidden and clear on the other side of town, which is perfect. I never get begged to go there. If it weren't for the commercials we could pretend such a thing did not exist.

As to being gross. I am too. I could hang with ya.

This is why Chuck E Cheese sells beer...

As for the potty talk, I'm up for a contest.

I hate Chuck E Cheese and I haven't been there since *I* was a kid. I'm hoping to avoid it for as long as possible. Or forever. Forever would be nice!

I am in my 43rd month as a parent and have yet to go. When we drive by it though, my DD yells, "look Chuck E Cheese"- she recognizes the sign from the PBS commercials- Chuck E Cheese a proud supporter of PBS Kids, where a kid can be a kid.'

But she doesnt actually know what goes on inside of there. I hope to keep it that way.

I am surprised there are so many Chuck E. haters here.

Am I crazy for almost enjoying Chuck E. Cheese?
