  • email for kids

Does anyone know of a good email for kids? My 8yo DD wants an email address. I don't want her to get a yahoo one because of all the junk emails/spam. I know because my email is through yahoo. I'd really like one that filters all the undesirable email and has parental controls.

    Thanks!

Doesn't the Disney site have something like that?

      Re: email for kids

I still refuse to give our 7 y/o her own email account, no matter which site it's through.

Our almost-12 y/o finally has her own Yahoo! email, but only with the condition that she NEVER changes her password without our approval, doesn't delete ANY emails (either outgoing or incoming) and only gives it to a few of her friends that we are well acquainted with. We also check her emails every couple of days...usually before she has a chance to logon and check them out herself.

For our 7 y/o, I just let her use my email account to email her one friend who has an email address. At this point, I don't think she needs her own. But I'm the least fun and most unpopular mom ever. :>

I set Daegan up a gmail account. So far, I don't think he's gotten any spam.

I don't know if it has parental controls, but I like my gmail account. No spam yet and I've had it for a few months. But I only use it for email - I have a dummy yahoo account that I list when I *have* to give an email address.

Kate has a yahoo account, and she doesn't get any spam at all. She's only had it for about 8 months. Her school actually wants the kids to have email accounts so that they can send the kids announcements. She can not change her password without getting into my credit cards to do so, since I needed to use my credit cards as a "signature" type of thing so that Yahoo knew that I was setting up her account.

I do check her email account periodically (maybe 1x per 2 weeks) just to make sure she hasn't changed the password. I showed her how to set up folders and stuff, and she saves every single email. It's too funny- the folders are the names of her friends. So far so good, and I haven't had reason to examine the content of her emails yet. No suspicious activity, but she knows that I can check when I feel the need.
