    Re: traveling with a newborn

We didn't have to show any ID for Nate which was good because we didn't have our birth certificate either. We did bring some of his medical records just in case. The airlines just want to see that your child is not under two week or too old to sit on your lap.

I was really worried about flying but since October we've flown twice and he pretty much just slept during the whole flight. The advice of nursing him during takeoff worked perfectly. It really was much easier than I thought. Good luck!

I hope not, as we haven't gotten a copy of her birth cert. yet. (But on the other hand, babies don't have photo ID, and any non-photo ID seems pretty useless for their purposes anyway.)

We're flying to New England with her at the end of January, when she'll be 11 weeks, heaven help us.
In regards to ID, I think it depends on the airline. We flew ALOT with DS (first flight was at 6 weeks) and until he was 2 we were always asked for his birth certificate and shot records. Same when we flew with DD too. This was with SW. Other friends have not needed ID with other airlines.

We just flew on American a couple of weeks ago and no ID was required. We've never had to show ID for DS (we've flown Delta, US Airways, United and AA...but never SW) even when he had his own seat.

ETA: Ditto to what everyone else said about flying with a newborn.....the baby will eat and sleep most of the time. Good luck!

          Re: traveling with a newborn

The first time I flew w/Jacob the airline told me I'd need his birth certificate and I freaked out about it, made sure I had it, etc. I was never asked for it, and have never even thought to bring anything like that on our numerous flights since then.

Nope, no id required. I usually bring Nikolai's passport but forgot this trip. Apparently, if you're traveling w/ children these days they figure you must be parents because no one else is crazy enough to try.
