Is it possible to have a second child?

Hi,

I am wondering if it is possible to have two children, work and be married to an anesthesiologist? Crazy right?

My husband is usually out the door between 6:30-7AM and has an unpredictable return-home time. That also doesn't include overnight call and late call days. Because of the job risks involved, I did ALL overnight shifts with my firstborn (can't fall asleep in the OR). I also cover all sick-days at pre-school and doctor's appointments. Thank God I have an understanding boss.

With one child, I have been able to cope with work and my husband's schedule. However, I am nervous that a second child might break me? It is not that I don't want a second, but I also want to do what is best for our family. I enjoy working, but I feel that my only option would be to quit, if I had another child.

There is also not a lot of family support. My mother still works and only occasionally babysits.

Is their anyone here who had to make a similar decision? Is it hard being home all day after leaving the workforce?

Any thoughts, on what a dual-career/two-child household is like when daddy is a doc?

Actually we have a Anesthiso....(whatever I can't spell ) wife who just had her SIXTH child. There is another wife of said profession that has four kids under the age of six or seven. It can be done.

the one with 6th is rads .... but the other had 4 under 4 at one point -- and is going to school as well.

anything can be done. it just depends on what / where your focus is. "superwoman" isn't a real thing, and there will always be compromises. you have to decide what you're willing to compromise on, and go from there.

It's possible, it just depends what your expectations are. One solution would be to hire a nannie, if you can afford one.
