We finally went on my first playdate. I found this site for Baltimore moms this week and I introduced myself on the forums. I found out that some of the moms were meeting up at Barnes and Noble in my town and I decided that should try to meet up with them. This is so out of character for me, I always feel socially retarded. Its so bad that most of the time I even have a hard time posting on this site (even though everyone is so friendly and welcoming ). I feel like an outsider looking in most of the time. But DS at 5 months is so social that I figured I really should try to step out of my box for him. Plus I am also going stir crazy not having any family and friends during winter time. Anyway it went well and there were two other 5 month old babies and the moms were really nice. It was a bit awkward at first but I've decided I'll keep trying to go to events and maybe I'll form some friendships along the way. Heres to hoping!

Re: We did it
That's great, good for you!!
I got involved in a few organized groups here and there when DS was first born, and have made some very good friends that way. Sometimes I think it's easier to make friends with other random moms, because you have an instant conversation starter (your kid, duh) and lots of things in common (sleeping, eating, whatever your neurosis ).~Jane

Re: We did it
I went to another playdate today and it definitely got much easier and more comfortable. A new mom showed up with another 5 month old boy and she is married to a urology resident. I of course imediately gravitated towards her. I was so excited to meet another dawkters wife that I hope I didn't end up looking like a stalker.
