Teenagers and tutors can be very trying. My next door neighbor has had a rough time with her oldest son, and she has been through several tutors. Recently she hired a tutor from a local college. She takes her son to the college and they have their tutoring sessions on campus, usually in the library or sometimes the student center. It has made a world of difference. He is in the college setting, with a cute girl as his tutor!!! He sees all of the college students and studying and and being tutored or doing the tutoring. For the first time he is excited about one day going to college. When the tutors came to their house there were way too many distractions, the phone ringing, the dogs barking, and the other two kids and their friends in and out of the house. If you have a college nearby, this may be an optiion for you. Hire a cute college guy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh Man Luanne!!! The trouble that would entice!!! I would have *loved* having a cute college boy for a tutor!

We'll see how this week goes- Kate wasn't aware of the 1 hour agreement. Hopefully she'll be able to use the time better this week...

suppose that could backfire!!!!! Maybe the fact that the older student is the girl makes this work.

        Re: Peggy

Kate canceled this weeks session- she had no work to do, and she just managed a high B on her unit test (the biggee) and feels like what they're doing is "really easy". Plus it's part of the "new math" and so the tutor wouldn't be familiar with it anyway. I know that DH and I have no idea what it is... Why are they screwing with the math curriculum by adding really wierd stuff when the kids really need to practice the fundamentals!? Uggggh.
