    Thanks.

    Re: Holiday List

    It's pretty basic, really.

I got him the V-smile computer game thingy with the case and the battery charger.
He's getting a tent (Thomas the f-ing Tank engine of course), new crayons and markers. A set of new playdough. Some new books and the Muppets Christmas movie.

When we get to my mom's I'm going to run over to the outlets and get him a few shirts and some more jeans. (he won't be the least bit interested but too bad, they count!)

        Re: Holiday List

I just wanted to throw out how much my DS (4 years) loves Kids Knex. We're getting DD the Pixie princess set because they now are fighting over DS's set.

We get the 3+ sets for him and he uses the pictures on the inserts included in each set to "build" creatures for HOURS. He loves it and the pieces are not so small like Magnetex -- thinking ahead to when baby is old enough to move and put everthing in his mouth.

Yesterday he made three creatures (30 minutes) created a world with his little people sets, and played with them for over an hour. He was engaged by himself (other than showing us what he made) for 90 minutes +. Gotta love it.

        OUR LIST:
We're getting leapsters for the kids (our first step towards video games -- we have Leap pads but that's it) a few puzzles, books, and one costume each. Together they are getting two movies and some kitchen stuff for the playroom. I'm pretty sure we'll stop there because our friends and relatives are so generous it gets silly how much our kids receive.

          Re: Holiday List

We are getting dd and ds each a portable dvd player. Disclaimer: this is also a gift for Mom and Dad. In February, we are going to Hawaii for a vacation and two weeks after we return we are heading to Boston for a wedding. The kids (ahem . . . we) will need DVD players to occupy the time.

Dd is getting a dollhouse, a barbie (I want to be a doctor Barbie ) and a Razor scooter. She is getting some small stocking stuffers and a dvd. Ds is getting a Geo Trax track pack and a new train to go with his set. Similar to Flynn's son with Knex, ds will play for a while (up to an hour) with his Geo Trax. He loves Geo Trax. We also got him a work bench and tools. Like Dd, he is getting some small stocking stuffers and a dvd.

We're done shopping for the kids. We need to get to work on the rest of our family.

I posted DS's list elsewhere, but I'm pretty sure that you are not in the market for suitable 8 year old boy toys.

DD is going to get (collectively from grandparents, aunts, uncles, santa, etcetera)

            princess bike
            AG doll
clothes from Target for AG doll (I think the Target brand is called Our Generation. It fits AG doll and is much cheaper)
Chico princess remote control car (to keep her out of her brother's cars)
            Stare board game
Leapster games (she received her brother's hand-me-down Leapster for Christmas lst year, quite a good value for this house IMO).
One of those doll heads that she can do the hair and make up on
            books
a few Little Petshops and one pink dragon webkin for her stocking

            Kelly
In my dreams I run with the Kenyans.

              Re: Holiday List

No kids of my own but I'm Santa for a few:

              Girl - Age 9
Make-Up Kit - specifically marked to little girls (i.e. pastels, sparkles), Hanna Montana Bedsheets - But she'd be satified with anything Hanna Montana or Jonas Brothers that is not a doll, Littlest Pet Shop stuff, and trendy clothes.

              Boy - Age 7
Legos Bionacle Kits -- I don't know what "bionacle" is but the kid is obsessed with it. They look like robot bugs to me. He's into anything he can take apart and put together -- Transformers, erector sets, science projects. . . If it has a million little pieces or can be broken into a million pieces, he's a happy guy. He and DrK spend hours reading the legos catalogue when it arrives. I also got him binoculars and walkie talkies for his birthday a few months ago. That was a big hit.

              Boy - Age 3
Barking Dog Puppet, "Cars" themed books, "Diego" themed stuff, Leapfrog, and stuffed animals.

              Girl - Age 18 months
Embroidered Jeans, T-Shirts, Coat (long distance. I don't know her interests. Figured I'd get whatever would make her parents happy.)

              Boy - Age 10 Months
Rugby Shirt, Stacking Blocks that light up and make sounds, Elmo and "Tad" baby leap frog stuff.

By the way, Target is really great for all of this stuff.

Just wanted to mention that if you fly Hawaiian airlines they have DVD players loaded with tons of movies and tv shows that you can rent. There are two jacks on the player. I thought they were great. Having your own is nice too though. We had a crappy one given to us years ago and it finally crapped out. It was horrible, the battery would barely last for one movie. In the spring we got a sony and it is awesome and has great battery life; at least 5 hours.

For Christmas my kids are getting [from various people] wii games, dvds, clothing, gameboy, gameboy games, batman legos, bionicles, my little pony carnival set, extra large volleyball for beginners, magic shoe fairy cottage, origami kits, leapster, leapster games, volleyball lessons, ballet lessons, children museum membership renewal, sassy earth brights wood teether toys, i play three little pigs, boon and skip hop cups, plates, utensils, ect, baby legs, books, and a boxer puppy to come when we find a breeder that we like.

                  Re: Holiday List

I just bought some books (per his mothers orders) for a ten year old nephew.
The Good Master by Kate Seredy

"Swallows and Amazons" and "Swallowdale" these are the first two books in a 10 or 12 book series written in the 30's by the British author Arthur Ransome.

She remember how much my kids loved these books and asked for them. Very sweet!

Yes, we flew to Hawaii two years ago on Hawaiian airlines and rented one of its DVD players. It was great and entertained our dd then. We are hoping that by buying DVD players we will be able to use it on other airlines as well as in the car. Thanks for mentioning your experience with the battery life. Dh and I are double checking the battery life on the ones we bought so we don't run into the problem you mentioned. We did not buy Sony.
