My dad had the video set up in the garage and you can hear her cursing as she got outof the car to open up the garage door. "dammit, it's my birthday and he can't even open the garage door...mutter....mutter." and she flings up the door and backed into the garage was a shiny (new to them) Saab convertible with "Nifty 50" as her new license plates.

    She was FLOORED.

      Ohhhh man! I forgot something!

As kids, my mom would purchase "magic reindeer hay" from one of my neighbors.
It came in a little brown bag, with "instructions" printed on it: we would go outside, and sprinkle it on the lawn. I remember it having some sort of shiny (glitter?) magic dust - the thought was, it would assist the reindeer to all the places they must fly.

My mom also made Santa cookies and a glass of milk, and we would leave a note for him.
In the morning, the cookies and milk were gone, and Santa had written "Thank you!" to us.

LOTS of pictures of my sibs and I doing both of these things.

Lastly, we had to get our picture taken with Santa every year - it's really neat to see how the mall Santa's change, and how we continue to grow. We stopped that at age 16 for me, but bro and sis kept going until their sixteenth.
Now, we go to a light festival and take pictures on a light bridge, overlooking a pond with swans swimming on it.
It's pretty sweet, and I'm 25 this year - I love these traditions
