That really can be a huge factor. Jacob did not relate well with his teacher last year, and his grades and behavior showed it. This year, this teacher (the first one we've had that is actually older than I am) has made a HUGE difference.

FWIW, I've also been curious about those centers, b/c while Jacob is doing a lot better and is earning A's & B's (we didn't get letter grades until 5th grade), I've still considered getting him help with reading. We have the same issue re: working together. It's a NIGHTMARE for both of us.

And I'll 4th or 5th the vision suggestion. My dh was actually considered "dumb" by his parents (yes, dumb) until his 2nd grade teacher suggested glasses. Then he was a superstar (but still has the "dumb" brother rap).

    Good luck!

And I might be tempted to reply to the email from Ben's teacher where she scheduled you 2 weeks out with "I'm really looking to get him extra help ASAP, and would appreciate it if I could squeeze into your schedule for a few minutes in the next few days." and copy the principal. That's just BS.
