In a moment of clarity it dawned on me that this was probably attention-seeking from Daddy behavior- Rick's been gone so much over the past two weeks, then when was finally off-call he had to go to Ft. Hood and then spent all day Friday at work.

I think we're still experiencing lingering sideeffects of the deployment. The dude freaks out when Rick's not around- he has to know where he is and when he's coming home every day.

Jenn, this is not going to make you feel better, but Amanda did the EXACT same thing to me at about the same age. I took her to the pediatrician and she limped and carried on. Our pedi was a smart cookie and she started playing with Amanda and then said she was going to time her to see how fast she could race down the hallway. Amanda took off like a lightning bolt. Then, the pedi asked her if she could hop down the hallway like a bunny. hop, hop, hop.

Oooops. Forgot to limp.

It was just the cure.

I have a new solution for the daddy-withdrawal syndrome. Basically, I've changed my attitude about the kids bugging DH at work. If the President of the US can be available to his daughters 24/7 via cell phone, so can a doc. I always call first (I can tell by how he answers the phone whether or not he's with a patient), and if he's not available right away, he can call back. He was stuck in a 5 hour code last week, and got an exception after the fact for that, but I basically expect that he will take two seconds and reassure the kids that he will be home, whenever that may be. If his nurses have a problem with that (and some do, believe me), they can take it up with me.

I can only imagine what deployment does to a little one. I know that Caleb's stomach ache happens much more frequently when DH is home. Mostly because Daddy will do a full H&P (thereby granting 10 minutes of uninterupted face time).

Because DS is a worrier, I am sure that his stomach does bother him sometimes, but I am willing to bet that it isn't every time that he has to go to bed.

We always have major injury drama at our house. It's ridiculous. Ice packs are downright fashionable around here. Pink, of course.

I haven't tried the soap on a toothbrush yet. Hehe.

We have a special toothbrush just for soap. I think I've done it maybe three or four times total but it's a very effective threat when the sass starts. A little Dove (the bar soap, not the dishwashing liquid!) goes a long way.

Yesterday he got a splinter and you'd have thought he had impaled himself upon a sword. Of course he was completely melodramatic about it (I have no doubt that it hurt- it was a good half inch long) that included having to have his buddy Lily hold his hand while I performed the delicate surgery. and limping afterwards- on his tip-toes.

That Oscar better come straight to my house for display.
