  • Halloween!

For once I am thinking ahead, and I think that for his third Halloween Eddy will finally have a costume. Problem is, I am and always have been completely clueless when it comes to dress-up ideas! Anyone care to brainstorm with me? I'd rather do something half-assed and obviously homemade than buy something already-made, I think. I'm just that cheap. Matchy-matchy with his sister a plus, but not required. For her I'm awfully tempted to try the "octopus baby", since we have a thrift store nearby where I should be able to get plenty of stockings to stuff and attach to her onesie.

    Thanks for any help!

This year I am feeling a little overwhelmed and will buy more than make or assemble. Kids are doing some extra chores to pay for parts of their costumes.

How about a sea theme to go with the octopus? Googles and snorkel gear for Eddy to be a deep sea diver? A fish or shark? I'm not sure how you would make that costume but you're pretty crafty and I bet you could come up with some fins. Anna would have loved to be a shark at that age.

We will have a butterfly, a Hogwart Scholar, and a kimono clad princess.

Cute idea for Natalie! And I like nellies idea for Eddie

Nellie, your girls will be very cute!

I'm not too terribly creative. Ds will be a scarecrow, dd will be Glenda the good witch, and other dd will be Dorothy

my moms makng them. She made the babes into three blind mice a couple years ago. Cutest. Thing. Ever.

What kinds of things interest him? At that age, I started letting DS choose what he wanted to be. He was a spider at two and a dog at three...probably not what I would have chosen (especially the spider!), but he was proud of his costumes. I'm not sure yet what he wants to be this year.

Sylvia, I remember the photo of the 3 blind mice.....they were so, so cute!

One year Emma & Brigham were Thing 1 and Thing 2. At the time Emma was almost 3 and Brigham 14 months. I dressed them in all red, and used blue hair spray on Brigham's nice dark brown hair, and made it spikey. I did Emma's hair in cute funky pigtails. I opted out of spraying Emma's very blonde hair in fear that it wouldn't wash out. I then made a circle for each saying Thing 1 or Thing 2. At our church Halloween party people loved it. It cost me all of $2 for the hairspray. They both had red clothing.

I just got my Family Fun which always has the cutest easy homemade costumes. I will check it out and post later.

See, he's not very verbal and I don't think he understands the concept of Halloween. But he does LOVE the Cat in the Hat right now. That might be kind of hilarious.

I am excited to dress J up this year too, but also want to do it on the cheap. He loves Winnie the Pooh books (and DVD ) so we are thinking of that theme, probably Piglet even though that basically means putting him in a pink onesie, which DH is not too thrilled about!

Family Fun magazine had some great, and easy, homemade costume ideas in the issue I got the other day.

I have no idea. The anti-Halloween boy won't talk about it.

I have the hot dog costume from last year if anyone wants to borrow it. (Age 4-6)

Richard 2/1 wants to be Batman and has insisted that his baby brother (6 mths) be Robin. Should be cute!

When C was about 3 he went as a fireman. I purchased a cheap black sweatshirt from Walmart about 4 sizes too large and slit it up the front. I used velcro for the closure all the way up the raw edges. I then either sewed or glued on yellow felt for the reflective stripes. I hit up the local fire station for a kids plastic badge. A pair of black pants that we already owned along with an existing fireman's helmet and we were set for about 7 bucks and a couple of hours of labor.

Kai is gonna wear the lion cub costume I made for Daegan. Daegan got a Target monkey costume. He wanted the fairy princess one but Russ vetoed it.
