At what point did you have your first ob appt?

I think this is a tad on the unusual side...but here you go in for the first time between 9-11 weeks and have your blood drawn and give a medical history (no dr or midwife visit)...then you come in 2-4 weeks later for your first visit with an ob/midwife. Is that strange? With my others, I had my first ob appt by 8 weeks or so.....

I can't remember for sure...but around 7 or 8 weeks??

I was always very anxious to get my prenatal vitamins so waiting 7-8 weeks was about as long as I could wait. I think once when I called for the first appt. the receptionist told me that the dr. didn't see patients until at least 9 weeks. Then I said, "oh, ok, I'll check with another dr. then." She immediately scheduled me for an appt.

With Emma I saw the dr at 5 weeks-- found out at my follow-up to a miscarriage that I was pregnant.

With #2, I was 6 wks and I saw a nurse, who ordered an u/s because I was breastfeeding, and I wasn't exactly sure of my EDD. At the appointment with the nurse I got my prenatals, and blood work done. I didn't see my OB until 13 weeks.

With the twins I had a prenatal at about 8 weeks (where the doc did an ultrasound and told me that I was having twins and I said, No, I'm not, and he said, Yes, you are... that went on for a while.) But I contacted other docs for a prenatal when I was pregnant (unfortunately I had a miscarriage on that pregnancy) and some said they didn't do the first until 10-12 weeks, others said 8 weeks. As long as it's the first trimester, I guess. Good luck, though! I know it's hard to be patient!

I got a chuckle over the image of you arguing with the doctor over whether or not you were having twins... that is hysterical!

Kelly- the funniest thing about it was that he'd had the same argument with his wife a couple of years earlier! It was nice to have an OB who had twins himself!

I went in immediately with both of mine--probably about 5 or 6 weeks. I never had any clue how far along I was since I don't normally have periods so they had me come in right off the bat to do an ultrasound so we could try to pinpoint a due date. I can't imagine waiting any longer than that to go in. Especially since pre-natal vitamins are so important in the first trimester. I would think they would get you in right away just to get a baseline on your weight, blood pressure, etc. That of course is my non-medical opinion!

I think that is pretty standard, Kris! I know that we get so anxious to get in there but I have heard that most OBs want to see you between 10-12 weeks. I saw my OB during the first PG at 7 weeks (I think this was so early because I actually didn't have a doctor here and needed to get set up with an OB/GYN anyway). . .and I saw her again at 6 weeks with the second PG because of the miscarriage.
I know how frustrating it is but remember that those early appointments are incredibly boring and there isn't anything that they do really except draw blood and take your weight and BP! Hang in there!

My husband says they like to see patients for a first visit at around 12 weeks if there are no complications, like a prior miscarriage or other things in the patient's history. I know I was seen earlier than that with my first pregnancy, but with the others I think it was around 12 weeks or so. (Of course, I had a "home advisor" to check with who would take me in for ultrasounds after hours every couple of weeks! )
