  • Raising Happy Kids!

I am almost halfway finished with this book, but I really like it. It is called "Raising Happiness" and it comes out of the Greater Good Science Center at UC Berkeley. They literally study happiness and this book takes much of their research and adapts it to how to raise happy kids. There are many things in there that I am learning to apply for myself, to my marriage, etc. Out of all of the parenting-reading out there, I like this one because it focuses on making your children be (and learn to be) happy.

I highly recommend it. And she has a blog too which is very similar.

...because I'm from Ohio (allegedly the nerdiest state) I just placed a hold on this book at the local library.

Haha, my MIL couldn't stop telling me about her Kindle until she discovered the library. "They have all the same books, but they're free!

Here, you still have to wait a while until you can download the free library e-books because they can only have x # out at a time.

Here too. So much for the Nook's advantage over the Kindle when you're #35 in line for a year old book.

I tried to read it and couldn't finish it. The author really bothered me. I was really bummed because I love supporting anything human development that comes out of the University of California.

And in that blog post she's spouting off about knowing Eastern beliefs about happiness. Umm, Buddhists believe that unhappiness comes from having desires and being self-centered. As in seeking to be happy. Buddhists believe that the way to find happiness is to "forget ourselves" and in doing so you will find happiness.

                  Amen to that!

I have not read the book but the title in and of itself bugs me. Honestly, we as a society are so hung up on, "am I happy" and all the self centeredness that comes with that question. I'm not happy, time for a new job, I'm not happy, time for a new spouse, I'm not happy, time for a... UGH!!!!!!!!!

I requested it from the library. I'm #3 in line so I probably won't get it until mid-Feb.
