  • Cutting baby's hair...

So... I scheduled an appointment for Sunday. I'm thinking about canceling it, because I'm not emotionally ready. Would it be creepy to ask to take home ALL of dd's hair?

Take a piece of ribbon with you, and some tape. All you need is a small piece wrapped in ribbon (with tape underneath). Think about it, what if your Mom (or your MIL) came to visit this week and brought some childhood mementos? Would you want a bowl full of hair, or a small lock of hair in a ribbon?

The place we went had a certificate for him (aka ME) and put a lock of hair on it.

and yes, a bowl is a bit too much because some day you'll be moving and mad and toss the whole thing.

I didn't save any of the boys hair, but I've cried each time I've cut it!

I usually save a small lock and just stick it - very unceremoniously - in a Ziploc bag, and then label the outside with the child's name and date of haircut.

I'm with you. DrK keeps asking when we can cut BabyK's hair and I keep reminding him that before BabyK was born, I made him promise that I could let his hair grow if it was curly. He's got the sweetest little curls in the back and although when his hair is wet it is very long, it all curls up above his collar when it's dry. I'm not going to cut it until people start mistaking him for a girl. If he was a girl, I probably wouldn't cut his hair ever. I really like the idea of tying a lock with a ribbon to save. Then put it in a baggy so it doesn't get ruined and tape it into her baby album. Really, hair clippings are not nearly as cute as the hair on the baby's head. I wouldn't save all of it.

alison, if you're not ready don't cut it. I know M has more hair then A but A is over 3 and hasn't had a hair cut yet.

I canceled the appointment. Cheri made me do it. Not ready yet. Don't make fun of me!

Thanks, ladies. The longer I look at pictures of dd, the more I realize that she does need a haircut. It's such a ratty mess these days. I just need to talk myself into it a bit more, and gain enough courage to make another appointment...

I wouldn't feel bad. I have a son so I think it's different but then minute his started looking like a mullet I cut it myself. I do want him to have a bowl cut eventually but I find it's hard to let it grow while also trying to cut it and keep it looking nice. With a girl, I don't think I'd cut her's until it was at least to her shoulders.
