We move too often for serious babyproofing but I really should do a little bit for DD. I never did with DS. He didn't leave my side. We got some of the outlet covers for him but the outlets at that place were all old and loose so he could just pull them out. Right now I have just put some tape over the outlets that DD is particularly curious about but i should pick up some covers. She climbed the stairs for the first time (with me right there) at just shy of 7 months old! She's crazy active. I put her in the pack n play if i need to do something and cant watch her. Now she's getting so fast at crawling and typically makes a beeline for the stairs or bathroom, I am going to get a gate for the bottom of the stairs, and will move it to the top of the stairs at night incase she decides to go exploring at night without waking me up (unlikely but theoretically possible).
Oh we have doorknob covers on the front door because a few days after we moved here I came out the bathroom to find the 3 year old half way down the block! He can still open the door but at least these slow him down (and thankfully he hasn't done that again anyway).

So true! We actually have had gates at the top of the stairs since we moved to corral the pups

We're going to have to get rid of the wobbly heavy wooden trifold in front of the bike corner...currently known as the "babykiller"

I wish we could get rid of the bike corner too!

We have a townhouse with steep stairs. We have retractable gates at every landing, going both up and down. At night when she's asleep, they're great, because we don't have to open and close them each time we pass through.

We have actually stopped using them almost entirely, because M started climbing up them about a month ago. I realized that that was actually more dangerous than her having access to the stairs.

We have outlet plugs which we are lazy about replacing after we use an outlet... And a few cabinet locks that are remnants of the previous owner. And that's it. M doesn't have any interest in toilets, and I don't leave anything within her reach (cleaning products, poisonous stuff, glass bottles) out.

I am all about creating an environment where I don't have to say "no" every two minutes, so I've got the basics going on - outlet covers, chemicals locked away, breakables out of reach, etc. We also have bookcases in rooms that have doors that stay shut. On the other side, though, I expect Cadence to know that she can't climb up on the end tables or stand up on the couch, etc., so I feel like there's a good balance between opportunity and expectations and learning.

Kenny has stood on the plastic trash can to look out the window. Climbs across the backs of the sofas. Stands on the entertainment center in front of the TV. Climbs the fridge. I get by with prayer. LOL

That may be part of the reason why we haven't had #4 yet. ha ha! Maybe when the boy is 5 or 6!

I guess I'm lucky that DD prefers to be underfoot, so I don't have to wonder where she is or what she's doing. She also has a couple of drawers in the kitchen that she can rummage and I just ask her to close the other ones when she tries to get in them. I also don't mind saying "no" repeatedly. I think it's good for her to realize that she'll be hearing no a lot more than yes.

I'm actually more concerned about visiting children than DD. She doesn't regard anything as "forbidden fruit" so isn't too much interested in breaking into a particular cabinet.
